Brian's Album Reviews Group #2

Pete Yorn - Musicforthemorningafter

No this is not a Punk band, finally. Pete Yorn is the lead singer of the band and also is the name of the band. Pete Yorn is a mellow college rock band that is starting to make it big, look for them this summer. I met Pete once after a show of his and had him sign a set list that a security gaurd had given me. After signing I said "You Rocked" and a not so modest Pete said "I Know", took a sip of his beer, and went on with his business. I had the whole band sign the set list and it is now framed and hanging in my room. Their drummer Luke, who I think was under the influence, stopped and talked with me for about five minutes, he was a pretty cool guy. But about their music, try out the songs "Life on a Chain" , "Black" and "Strange Condition". For more info on Pete Yorn go to: www.peteyorn.com

Sugarcult - Start Static

Eleven tracks of punk madness Muuhahaha!! Their latest single "Bouncing off the walls" is a very good song and I enjoy listening to it. I don't know too much about this band, I recently just started to listen to them. They are from Santa Barbara, CA and AMG (All Music Guide) calls them a "Pure Late 90's Punk Pop band." But I don't think they are too pop, so check em' out. For more info on Sugarcult go to: http://turnupyourradio.com (fan site)

Saves The Day - Stay What You Are

This album is Saves the Days third album and probably the most succesful. Saves the Day is an emotional pop punk band who sings about drugs, anorexia, and love. The band was recently on the Teen People Top 25 artists under 25. I saw Saves the Day when they toured with Weezer and Ozma, they were awesome. Their top single is "At Your Funneral", which is just one of eleven great tracks. For more info on Saves the Day go to: www.savestheday.com

Bad Religion - Process of Belief

Another punk band from southern California, Bad Religion has been making albums since the early 80's. They have a psychedelic, heavy metal, and hard rock sound, as well as a considerable dose of melody. Bad Religion is Co-Heading the Warped Tour this summer along with Good Charllotte and Pennywise. So if you like punk music this is a must have album. Check out some of their new songs, "Broken" , "Can't Stop It", and "Supersonic". For more info on Bad Religion go to: www.badreligion.com

The Strokes - Is This It

A New York City band that hit the CBGB's scene and soon blew up. There first single "Last Nite" got good play on late night MTV. Rolling Stone named them as one of the 50 coolest albums of all time and Teen People named them one of the top 25 artists under 25. This is a mellow rock album that uses plenty of mic tricks to make lead singer Julian Casablancas voice sound disstorted. I think this album will help start a mini rock revolution that will shut off the "Pop Machine" for awhile. There new single "Hard to Explain" has just hit the airways, and is getting quite a bit of radio play. For more info on The Strokes go to: www.thestrokes.com
