Bob-O's Deus Ex review:
In my opinion this is the best computer game ever! The graphics
rock and just the fact
that you can go through the entire game without killing anyone is
amazing enough. But enough of me sucking up to the makers of the
game, let's look at the product itself.
Gameplay:
Like I said, killing people is optional, so you can use stealth
and alternate routes to avoid "conflicts," though I don't
know why you'd want to do this. The fighting system in Deus Ex is
pretty basic, though some interesting new features have been added.
Aside from the 20 realistic guns(aside from the Plasma rifle) you
have things called Augmentations, they range from increased accuracy,
to a flashlight, to regeneration, but these all will cost you Bio
electric energy that can be recharged.
I suppose the best thing about playing this
game is the storyline, it places you in a suspicious world full
of conspiracy and secret organizations. I think the fact that this
entire game is played at night adds a sort of appocalypse feel to
it. The only problem I had with the story line is there are some
things you HAD to do, it's not totally open ended, though there
are some important in game descisions that affect gameplay.
Graphics:
The graphics are great, especially for the time the game was made.
There are reflective floors, heavily interactive surrondings, and
detailed character models. Some people have trouble running this
game because of it's high system requirements, I'm running it off
a 900 mhz with a GeForce 2 MX and I had some running problems in
large environments. So it's trying on the system to say the least.
The weapon models are nicely done and are pretty original, except
for the sniper rifle which takes me back all the way to Unreal.
Sound:
Sound plays a major part in this game, you need to hear the footsteps
of guards and their various alarmed noises, you can also listen
in on conversations. Of course everyone lets out a great yell of
death when shot, just to make sure you don't make it out alive.
The music fits, if an alarm sounds the music gets frantic and speeds
up, though sometimes it switches to techno which pisses me off!
A mixed opinion here.
Replay:
Once you beat the game there's a little to go back to, you can change
your in game decisions, choose who you kill again, choose where
to explore, and so on. There initially wasn't a multiplayer, but
so many people complained about it, they updated the game and added
one. It's a reccomended download for all you major onliine players.
Summary:
Gameplay - 100
Graphics - 95
Sound - 90
Replay - 85
Total - 98 (not an average)
