Ryan's
The Sims Review/Overview:
This gaming software is very interesting, infuriating, depressing,
addictive, and annoying all at the same time. In essence the game
has an excellent design, who doesnt want to run someone elses life?
On top of that have little people that prosper where you would fail,
due to your own personal problems.
Gameplay:
At first the game play is amazing, you are having fun, not too many
responcibilities and what not, but I started to notice things. Such
as when you choose for your character to goto, lets say, the bathroom;
you simply click somewhere and choose to "move here" but
if you are to watch the clock that your friends are running on,
it takes nearly a half an hour in some cases to just walk to the
bathroom. In reality it would have taking perhaps a minute. Why
they did this i have no idea, I guess people like it, everyone seems
to be playing it, or at least have at some point.
On a better note it's pretty fun to populate a community with people
that you designed and get to watch them, in some cases prosper.
Also I really enjoy the architectual engine in the game, allowing
you to build and furnish your own home. Actually thats what I do
mostly, I just build a house, furnish it, and put my people in it,
then I play them until I fail, and then I play some more.
Enough with the good notes though, I will add one last thing. I
made myself to the best of my ability, I then tried to have him
live somewhat like me and what happened was he played video games
too often and ended up going into depression. That was well after
the social bar had dropped to almost zero. Alright I guess that's
just accurate, so I'll say that is a good part of the game...? Im
not reviewing my life, or am I? STAY TUNED!
Graphics:
The graphics aren't too bad really. Nothing
that I would go out and buy a new Geforce4 for (Thursday June 13,
2002 - dating to see that the GeForce 4 was cool when I wrote this).
It has some pretty detailed segments in the game, such as whenever
you zoom into your character while they are preparing food you can
see them chopping the food. Also the graphics arent bad enough to
not like the game, now or even a bit into the future.
Sound:
Well not too much to say about the sim's sound.
It gets the job done. You are able to place your own mp3's and listen
to them through your sim's little stereo's and what not so that's
pretty cool. When they talk they make weird noises instead of actual
language, that sorta pisses me off, But it's nothing that cant be
drown out.
Replay:
Well for me the replay goes like this. I'll
start at the very beginning of the cycle. Bought game, loved it,
got addicted, completely hated it. 4 Months later, played it a bit,
downloaded some new crap, got an expansion pack, got addicted, hated
it. 4 months later, downloaded some new stuff, got a new expansion
pack, played, addicted, hated it. And it just goes on.
Summary:
Gameplay - 85
Graphics - 85
Sound - 80
Replay - 90 (Do to upadates and expansions)
Total - 88 (not an average)
I will although give it honorable mention for being the gateway
drug to the computer game industry, terms non-gamers, and light
gamers on and gets them into heavier games.
Expansion Packs:
The Sims Vacation
Expansion Pack
-Dont Have, doesnt interest me enough, maybe in about 4 months I'll
get it
The Sims Hot Date
Expansion Pack
-Adds the ability to go downtown and chill wit yo homies and all
your babies momma's
-Lots of shady gay looking characters, makes me nervous, I want
to have friends, but where do you draw the line?
-Comes with the ability to call someone to just say hi, but if you
have livin' large you can just download it on the site.
-I'd say the 2nd best expansion
The Sims House Party
Expansion Pack
-Don't have, didnt care to get
The Sims Livin' Large
Expansion Pack
-Kinda essential, I'd actually buy this one; allows you to lots
of stuff
-Not bad really, lots of new stuff if you just have the first one.
Most of the updates in this expansion can be downloaded on their
site.
-Adds new jobs, which are ok i guess, whatever. I get too bored
with it before I have a chance to play all the jobs.
